The Champion girls soccer team had already clinched a playoff spot, it was just a matter of what seed they would end up.
When the night started last Friday, the Lady Chargers were the No 4 seed in 26-5A and despite beating Seguin at Matador Stadium, 4-0, the Lady Chargers didn’t move up a spot after all the teams ahead of them also won.
The top four teams in the district were bunched up after Pieper claimed the 26-5A title at 11-2-1, while Smithson Valley, New Braunfels Canyon and Champion all had 10 wins.
Smithson Valley only had 1 loss and 3 ties so they finished 10-1-3 and Champion and NB Canyon both went 10-3-1 but NBC defeated the Chargers twice so they own the tiebreaker.
Friday’s shutout was Champion’s seventh in district play, so in half of their 26-5A wins this year, the Lady Chargers were able to keep their opponents off the board.
In last Friday’s match at Matador Stadium, Daylynn Carpenter continues to play well and knocked in 2 goals, while Meredith Plank and Ashlyn Plank both tallied 1 assist each.
NOTES: The Charger soccer teams are done with district play and open the playoffs March 25, but both the girls and boys teams will play New Braunfels High at Charger Field in warm up games Wednesday, March 20. The girls start at 5:30 and the boys begin at 7:15 p.m.
