Comfort’s comeback against Harper last Saturday came up short after the Longhorns defeated the Bobcats, 9-8.
Comfort was trailing 9-2 when the seventh inning started and plated 6 runs in the frame but Harper recorded the last out before the Cats could tie it up.
Comfort slips to 8-3 with two of those losses coming to Harper after the Longhorns also defeated them on March 2 in a tournament, 9-6.
In last Saturdays game, the Cats scored first in the game and went up 1-0, but Harper answered with 2 in the bottom of the frame for the 2-1 lead.
The Longhorns added another in the second and it was 3-1, but the Cats cut into the lead with a single run in the third to make it 3-2.
Harper added another run in the bottom of the third to double up the Cats at 4-2 and then expanded their lead with 3 runs in the fourth and another 2 in the fifth for the 9-2 advantage.
It stayed that way until the seventh when Comfort mounted its comeback. The Bobcats hit 5 singles and had a hit batter and the lead was down to 9-5 with one out.
A fielder’s choice, single and another hit batter made it 9-7 but the Longhorns recorded the second out of the frame at that point.
A Mason West single drove in another run and the lead was down to one at 9-8 but that’s where the rally ended after Harper threw out a runner at second base to end it.
Comfort had 9 hits in the game and all 9 were singles. West recorded 3 of the singles, Micah Nye had 2 singles, while Mason Matt, Luke Bohnert, Izzy Lopez and Noah Bohnert all hit 1 single.
Nye drove in 3 runs, West picked up 2 RBI, Luke Bohnert, Lopez and Juan Zarate all collected 1 RBI each.
West scored 3 runs, while Brooks Davis, Nye, Luke Bohnert, Trace Weber and Noah Bohnert all crossed home plate one time.
Nye went 3.1 innings and gave up 5 hits, 2 walks and struck out 1 batter. Lopez tossed 2.2 frames and yielded 5 hits, no walks and also fanned 1.
