Lady Chargers record season sweep over Veterans Memorial

Boerne Champion made it a clean sweep in girls basketball Tuesday night when the Lady Chargers visited Veterans Memorial.

Champion’s varsity squad overcame a lot of early foul trouble to get its win over the Lady Patriots, 60-44.

The Lady Chargers won both games with Veterans Memorial this year and improves its overall record to 15-11.

Champion is 3-6 in district and hosted Smithson Valley Friday. They are off Tuesday before visiting Alamo Heights on Friday, Jan. 17.

The Chargers held a slight edge at the end of the first quarter, 12-8, and held the Lady Patriots to single digits again in the second stanza with 9 points, while they netted 18 to open up a 30-17 lead by halftime.

Veterans Memorial played better in the second half and tallied 15 and 12 for 27 points in the final two periods, but the Chargers outdid them with 13 and 17 for 30 second-half points.

The Chargers shot it well from the outside and knocked down eight 3-pointers, including four from Addison Darter, who finished with 12 points.

Taylor Burk dropped in a couple of 3s and led the team in scoring with 14 points, Hailey Winn finished with 10 points and was 6 for 8 at the free-throw line, Jordyn Davis hit a 3 and scored 6 points, Abby Sommer also drained a 3 and finished with 5 points, Saoirse Ray and Ainsley Darter both netted 4, Kam Edwards finished with 3 points and Savannah Wayment was 2 for 2 at the line and scored 2 as nine different players scored.
