Literature created under lock and key
Literature created under lock and key
It was my privilege as a retired museum professional to take part in feasibility discussions, exploring the potential of refurbishing the affectionately referred to Old Jailhouse. Those participating were given a tour that included time in the second-floor cells. At that moment, I recalled conversations regarding literature created by the incarcerated. 01/21/2022 12:00 AM

When it comes to this month’s lifeskills, relationships and core values, look around you. How does your family, community, even systems and institutions support your core values? 01/21/2022 12:00 AM
Planning for incapacity because we never know
Planning for incapacity because we never know
When it comes to estate planning, most people automatically think about only a will or trust to ensure the right people inherit their stuff when they die. Although that thought is not wrong, it also leaves out a very important piece of planning for life. Consider that at some point before your eventual death, you could be incapacitated by accident or illness. 01/18/2022 12:00 AM

Facing ‘complicated mourning’
Facing ‘complicated mourning’
Q: My father treated me horribly when I was a child, so my relationship with him was strained and distant until the day he died. I never worked things out with him in person, and now I’m struggling with feelings of bitterness, anger and even a little guilt. How can I get past this? 01/18/2022 12:00 AM

Honored band members
Honored band members
Three students at Boerne and Champion high schools have been named to the 2022 All-State Band. Boerne’s Savanna Strause (saxophone) and Connor West (trombone) were selected to the Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) All-State squad while Champion’s Ethan Ratliff (right) earned a spot on the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-State Band. This is the second year in a row that Ratliff has been named All-State. Becoming an allstate band member is one of the highest achievements an individual band student can earn, and less than 0.5 percent of all participants can earn the honor. 01/18/2022 12:00 AM

Arts partners continue to support community in big ways
Arts partners continue to support community in big ways
Cibolo Creek Quilters Guild members’ generosity offers a magnificent year of support to local charities. While COVID-19 continued to prevent opportunities for members to get together and sew, it failed to impact donations to local charities. We appreciate the donation of precious time, talent and treasures of our arts partner guild members. 01/14/2022 12:00 AM
