FAIR OAKS RANCH — A major thoroughfare in the city — Dietz Elkhorn Road — is about to get a facelift, and city officials want everyone to know about it.
The city is hosting an open house 4-6 p.m. July 29 to spell out reconstruction of a 1.2-mile stretch of the road between Fair Oaks Parkway and FM 3351.
The session is at the Police Department Training Room, 7286 Dietz Elkhorn.
Construction is expected to begin in August and take 12 to 15 months to complete, officials said.
The project will reconstruct the road while maintaining 11-foot travel lanes and adding 5-foot paved shoulders on both sides. The improvements, a city official said, are “intended to increase safety, extend the roadway’s useful life and provide better connectivity through the corridor.”
A waterline project will be completed alongside the roadway reconstruction to reduce the need for additional work in the future, according to the city.
Drivers should expect lane closures, changing intersection access and detours, officials said.
Construction will be in three phases, with each expected to last four months.
Officials said reconstruction is needed to fix the roadway’s declining condition which, if not repaired, will “deteriorate significantly” within three years.
The July 29 open house will include a staff presentation, a group question-and-answer session and breakout stations covering the scope of the enhancements and planned improvements, traffic- control and detour plans for each phase, and an anticipated construction schedule.
The city will provide advance notice before work begins and before each major traffic change takes effect, officials said.
