CELEBRATING THE ARTS

Studio Comfort Texas is proud to feature a selection of Darden Smith’s lithographs and drawings in an exhibition titled, “Western Skies: Prints and Drawings.”

The exhibit runs from November 11 to December 31. Please join Studio Comfort as Cara Hines, owner, hosts an opening reception, November 11 from 2-6 p.m., free and open to the public.

A Collector’s Preview and Concert will take place 6-8 p.m. November 10. Space is limited and a reservation is required.

Smith’s most expansive work to date, “Western Skies” encompasses a 128-page book of photographs, lyrics and essays; an album of new songs; and a series of lithographs, drawings, videos and spoken word recordings.

“I look for humor in the mundane, the beauty and grace of the overlooked detail to make something new,” says Smith. “I’m not interested in making an exact replica. We already have that.”

Hines adds, “Darden creates an intimacy between the reader or viewer and his art. He moves people to see and feel. I want people to be moved by the artists I collaborate with in my gallery.”

Smith is a musician and artist with a 35-year career that continues to evolve and grow. He has toured extensively in the U.S. and Europe, composed a symphony, released 17 critically acclaimed albums, written music for film and advertising, scored dance theater works, and published two books.

Smith is currently the inaugural songwriter in residence at the University of Texas at Austin.

The exhibition and opening reception will be held at Studio Comfort Texas, 716 High St. In Comfort, as well at public spaces across the street at Hotel Giles, 717 High St.
